Sun and Age Spots – Pre and post care
Ensuring the proper care leading up to, and immediately after your treatments is vital. To ensure the best possible result and for your safety, please follow the care instructions listed below.
**Please Note: There will be some down time with this treatment. The treated area may appear brown/red and crusty for several days to over a week following treatment.**
SUN & AGE SPOT REMOVAL PRE TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Avoid Sun Exposure – The area to be treated should not be exposed to sunlight or to tanning booth light for 4-6 weeks prior to treatment.
Self Tanning Products – The use of self-tanning skin products must be discontinued one week before treatment. Any residual self-tanner should be removed.
Topical Medications – Avoid applying any topical medications or skincare on the treatment area that may cause sensitivity for 3-5 days before your appointment.
Skin Cleanliness – Your skin should be completely clean and dry prior to treatment. Remove or omit application of any skin care products on the day of treatment.
Herpes Simplex Virus – Clients with a history of Herpes Simplex Virus may begin prophylactic antiviral medication before treatment if recommended by your physician.
**Please Note: Treatments for veins and pigmented lesions are not recommended for clients who have darker skin types (Fitz V-VI) as they have an increased risk of hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation.**
SUN & AGE SPOT REMOVAL POST TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Cool Compresses – Cold gel packs, or a soothing skin care product such as aloe vera gel may be applied after treatment.
Sun Exposure – Avoid sun exposure and use a sunblock (SPF 30+) after and during the course of treatments.
Sensitive Skin – You will have some redness and swelling post treatment which can last from a couple hours to a couple days. The area will feel like a sunburn for a few hours.
Exercise & Physical Activity – Avoid excessive exercise, hot tubs, or any temperature raising activities for 24 hours.
Skin Pigment – The treated pigment will appear darker immediately after and within the first few days following treatment. The darkened pigment will flake off like dry skin within 7-10 days. Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin and gently apply a moisturizer. No irritant skin care products or topical medications are to be applied until the area is healed.
Healing – Skin underneath where a scab or crust fell off will be pink. Normal skin colour will return with time. Darker pigmentation may take several weeks to fade.
Avoid the Sun – Remember the importance of avoiding sun exposure and always use a sunblock (SPF 30+) after treatment.
Rare Possibility of Blistering – If blistering occurs inform the salon and allow natural healing process (topical antibiotic ointment is recommended). If blistering is severe please see your physician.
